Pastor Vanzelen G. Brown & Sister Edwyna Warrior Brown
Pastor Vanzelen G. Brown is a native of Nassau, Bahamas. He is the ninth of twelve children born to George and Petronha Brown. Pastor Brown comes from a family with a long tradition in the Missionary Baptist Church. He had two brothers: the late Pastor Michael "Bubb" Brown and Rev. Don Brown, who were Baptist ministers. He has a host of uncles and cousins that are Baptist ministers and ministers of other faiths.
Since 1975, Pastor Brown acknowledged his call to the ministry. In 1979, Pastor Brown left the islands to pursue an education in the ministry. He often tells the congregation of how he left home with only enough money for one semester of college and a promise from his mother, "Son go with God and He'll go with you!" Pastor Brown attended Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri, where he earned a degree in Christian Education. Later, Pastor Brown attended Bartlesville Wesleyan College where he received another degree in Management. Pastor Brown is presently pursuing a Master's Degree in Divinity at Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa and plans to earn a Doctorate Degree.
Under Pastor Brown's faithful and tireless leadership his services includes: former Moderator of Eastern District Association, former President of Oklahoma State Congress of Christian Education, former Vice President of General Baptist State Convention of Oklahoma and Mentor for "Going To The Arts For Tulsa Kids". He is a member of the National and local NAACP. Before coming to the Greater Shiloh Family, Pastor Brown served as a Mentee under the late Dr. S. M. Harnsbury.
In 1990 Pastor Brown led the church in building the present Lee D. Moore Educational Center that was much needed at the time. Under Pastor Brown, GSMBC has more than twelve additional ministries, including the launching of a Television Ministry that covers the whole State of Oklahoma. Pastor Brown is now entering his 20th year as Pastor of Greater Shiloh. Under the leadership of Pastor Brown, Greater Shiloh has grown spiritually, numerically and financially.
Pastor Brown is currently married to former Ms. Edwyna Warrior Walker. She is a graduate of Langston University with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, a Master's degree in Counseling and an Administrative Certification from Northeastern State University. Besides being a loving and supportive wife to her husband, she is also very active in her church and in the community, which duties includes: Asst. Principal of Muskogee 7th and 8th Grade Center, Mentor for Muskogee Public Schools and Coordinator for the 7th and 8th grade Teens For Christ. She also serves as a member of the Church Choir, member of the Women's Fellowship, Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader, Spiritual coach for the church youths and pianist for the Sunday School. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the Multi Cultural Division for the city of Muskogee, the Oklahoma Secondary Administrative Association and the Muskogee Youth Volunteer Corp.
Rev. and Mrs. Brown have three children: LaCeisha, Harmony and Vanzelen Jr. They also have 2 grandsons: Collin and Darian.
